While scouring the Internet for this blog, I run across a number of useful cruise related sites and interesting people. Frankly, my Internet Explore “favorites” bookmarks just don’t seem to easily organize the all information, so why not store them here as resource to everyone?

These are links to people that have influenced or inspired me in the development of my career.

Dr. Cathy Small – Extraordinary? How about a college professor enrolling as a college freshman, moving out of her house and into the dorms, taking a full load of courses, joining student activities and eating in the student dining hall? Crazy? I think it’s Amazing! The book, which resulted “My Freshman Year,” is now the basis of efforts at Northern Arizona University and around the country to better adjust college structures and teaching to the learning styles of a more pressed and diverse student body. Dr. Small is spending this year speaking at more than 30 different universities and national conferences about how to apply the results of her ethnographic findings. Out-of-the box thinking implemented with enthusiasm for your work delivers out-of-the box results – that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?

Chris Locke, Doc Searls and David Weinberger wrote The Cluetrain Manifesto. When Cluetrain.com was created in April 1999, the web was still in its infancy – and there were plenty of doubters. Those that ignored the 95 Theses of the Manifesto have since been turned upside down or into dust – it was truly the end of business as we know it. A few thousand people signed their endorsement of the ideas. I was fortunate enough to be one of them. The website today has been declared a Read-Only Landmark.

Tom Mohr co-founder, President, and CEO of ResponseLogix. I’ve been fond of saying “the best thing for the newspaper business is to get out of the newspaper business.” While I meant diversifying like the Washington Post’s purchase of Kaplan University or by folding in web start ups, the strategy was only viable while there was still plenty of cash. Tom Mohr didn’t wait. Mohr was President of Knight Ridder Digital – at the time the second largest newspaper company in the U.S. He found seed money and now ResponseLogix lets auto dealers reply to Internet car buyers with a full quote in less than 10 minutes 100% of the time. Plus, it automatically follows up on “cold” leads with personalized e-mails, and provides powerful data tools to analyze sales performance. According to Mohr, all of this typically results in a significant, measurable increase in sales. Nothing typical about it. ResponseLogix’s goal is to be in over 50% of all auto-dealerships across the nation in four years.

Rolv Heggenhougen. Ideas without implementation are just day dreams. The guys at Wrapmail are making their dreams become a reality. Go to their site to see a simple but great idea being very well executed. If they don’t try to become all things to all people and keep focused on their core product it will be huge. Someday, virtually all corporate email will be done this way.
